Nejen, že k jeho dílu neustále vychází nové editorské komentáře, ale každý rok také vychází knihy, které se přímo nebo nepřímo zaobírají jeho postavou a intelektuálním dědictvím. A to jak v oboru filozofie, tak především v literatuře.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jako by jeho německá sebevražedná mrtvola, pohřbena v roce 1940 na námořním hřbitově v Portbou (malé pohraniční město mezi Španělskem a Francií), vyzařovala frekvenci z budoucnosti, kde neexistují hranice mezi myšlením, kulturní kritikou a literární tvorbou.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Právě do Portbou se přestěhoval básník a vypravěč Álex Chico s cílem zrekonstruovat poslední momenty života německého filozofa (když se pokoušel utéct před nacistickou perzekucí a zjistil, že nebude možné přejít do Portugalska). Ale po četných návštěvách města si Chico uvědomil, že příběh, o kterém se nikdo doposud nezmínil, byl ten z Portbou, jehož důležitost se snížila pouze během posledních dvaceti let. A to kvůli odstranění hranic a nové lince vysokorychlostního vlaku.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Potom, co Chico obrátil svou pozornost na Benjaminův příběh ve vztahu k tomuto městu, vznikl nový, ve stylu eseje napsaný román s pulzem poezie. Román nazvaný \u003Cem>Un final para Benjamin Walter\u003C\u002Fem> (Finále pro Benjamina Waltera) ukazuje, proč je autor Einbahnstraße (Jednosměrné ulice) stále tak živý a mezi námi: Benjamin je výjimečný učitel a čtenář městského prostoru.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To je důvod, proč jiný básník, Američan Kenneth Goldsmith, si vybral jako model pro svůj ambiciózní konceptuální projekt Kapitál vyobrazující New York jako symbolické centrum dvacátého století, nedokončený Benjamínův projekt o Paříži jako kapitálu století devatenáctého. Benjaminův projekt Arkády je archeologií metropolitní minulosti, která je ve skutečnosti strojem pro čtení megalopole budoucnosti.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">“Táhly židle. Slečna Ángela, zvaná Baldomero, požádal ji, aby je zvedly, ale ony táhly ty židle přes jeho zlatý hlas Angeluse Novuse”, čteme v Mandibula, novém románu spisovatelky Mónicy Ojedy. A pokračuje: “hlas spícího-anděla-historie, jenž diktuje minulost, třebaže jsou nevyhnutelně tlačeny přítomností — jako ty židle — směrem k příslibu budoucnosti dvaceti tří sukní, pěti úsměvů s hranatými závorkami, třech hodinek od Tory Burch, dvaceti a jednoho iPhonu, třinácti iPadů a jednoho růžence.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pokud mladá ekvádorská spisovatelka jako ikonoklastka proměňuje slavný fragment Tezí o filozofii historie (ve které Benjamin převádí obraz od Paula Kleeho v symbol pokroku), ve výčet ironických a divokých postmoderních objektů, tak jen částečně díky další benjaminovské ctnosti — nejistému světlu našeho jednadvacátého století. Myslím zde jeho nejednoznačnost. Nebo jinými slovy, jeho polysémie.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dodnes se neshodneme na tom, co znamená Angelus Novus. Ani, co Benjamin rozuměl svou Aurou. Nejen, že jeho systém myšlení byl fragmentární a otevřený, ale jeho styl psaní byl tak literární, že je nemožné rozhodnout jeho slovy univokální význam (ne dva, ani tři). Jeho dílo není možné plně zachytit, a proto nepřestává svádět a podněcovat nové výklady.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">V latinskoamerické literatuře, od argentinských spisovatelů Ricarda Piglia a Beatriz Sarlo, narozených ve čtyřicátých letech, po španělské autory Miguela Ángela Hernándeze Navarra nebo Césara Renduelese, kteří by mohli být jejich děti, můžeme zmapovat mezigenerační a transatlantickou posedlost autorem díla \u003C\u002Fspan>\u003Ci>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dětství v Berlíně kolem roku 1900\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fi>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Pokud bychom brali v potaz celou mezinárodní literaturu zaobírající se Benjaminem, topografie naší mapy se stane nezměřitelnou.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Benjamin strávil část období mezi lety 1932 a 1933 na ostrově Ibiza. Jak nám říká další básník a expert na jeho dílo, Víncente Valeru, ve své výjimečné eseji \u003C\u002Fspan>\u003Ci>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zkušenost a chudoba\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fi>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Benjamin zde byl znám jako “bídník”, neboť vykazoval známky vagabunda. Toto přirovnání zdůrazňuje, proč je Benjaminovo dílo poplatné pro naší epochu: společně s jeho strategiemi čtení prostoru a sémantické otevřenosti jeho literární prózy tu je i třetí důvod: prekarita.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Byl jeden z prvních freelancerů. Not only do new editorial commentaries on his work keep appearing, but every year books also come out that deal, directly or indirectly, with his figure and his intellectual legacy. And that is true in philosophy, and above all in literature.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is as if his German suicide’s corpse, buried in 1940 in the seaside cemetery of Portbou (a small border town between Spain and France), were emitting a frequency from the future, a future where there are no borders between thinking, cultural criticism and literary creation.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was to Portbou that the poet and storyteller Álex Chico moved, with the aim of reconstructing the last moments of the German philosopher’s life (when he was trying to escape Nazi persecution and found out that it would not be possible to cross into Portugal). But after numerous visits to the town, Chico realised that the story nobody had yet told was that of Portbou itself, whose importance has dwindled only over the last twenty years. And that because of the removal of the borders and the new high-speed rail line.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After Chico turned his attention to Benjamin’s story in relation to this town, a new novel came into being, written in the manner of an essay and with the pulse of poetry. The novel, titled \u003Cem>Un final para Benjamin Walter\u003C\u002Fem> (A Finale for Benjamin Walter), shows why the author of Einbahnstraße (One-Way Street) is still so alive and among us: Benjamin is an exceptional teacher and reader of urban space.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That is why another poet, the American Kenneth Goldsmith, chose Benjamin’s unfinished project on Paris as the capital of the nineteenth century as the model for his ambitious conceptual project Capital, which portrays New York as the symbolic centre of the twentieth century. Benjamin’s Arcades Project is an archaeology of the metropolitan past that is, in fact, a machine for reading the megalopolis of the future.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">“They dragged the chairs. Miss Ángela, alias Baldomero, had asked them to lift them, but they dragged those chairs over her golden voice of Angelus Novus,” we read in Mandíbula, the new novel by the writer Mónica Ojeda. And she goes on: “the voice of the sleeping-angel-of-history, which dictates the past, although they are inevitably pushed by the present — like those chairs — towards the promise of a future of twenty-three skirts, five smiles with braces, three Tory Burch watches, twenty-one iPhones, thirteen iPads and one rosary.”\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the young Ecuadorian writer, as an iconoclast, turns the famous fragment of the Theses on the Philosophy of History (in which Benjamin makes a painting by Paul Klee into a symbol of progress) into an inventory of ironic and wild postmodern objects, it is only partly thanks to another Benjaminian virtue — the uncertain light of our twenty-first century. I mean here his ambiguity. Or, in other words, his polysemy.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To this day we do not agree on what Angelus Novus means. Nor on what Benjamin understood by his Aura. Not only was his system of thought fragmentary and open, but his style of writing was so literary that it is impossible to settle a univocal meaning of his words (not two, not three). His work cannot be fully grasped, and that is why it never stops seducing and prompting new interpretations.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Latin American literature, from the Argentine writers Ricardo Piglia and Beatriz Sarlo, born in the 1940s, to the Spanish authors Miguel Ángel Hernández Navarro or César Rendueles, who could be their children, we can map an intergenerational and transatlantic obsession with the author of \u003C\u002Fspan>\u003Ci>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Berlin Childhood around 1900\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fi>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. If we took into account all the international literature dealing with Benjamin, the topography of our map would become immeasurable.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Benjamin spent part of the period between 1932 and 1933 on the island of Ibiza. As another poet and expert on his work, Vicente Valero, tells us in his exceptional essay \u003C\u002Fspan>\u003Ci>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Experience and Poverty\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fi>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Benjamin was known there as “the wretch”, for he showed the signs of a vagabond. This comparison underlines why Benjamin’s work speaks to our epoch: together with his strategies for reading space and the semantic openness of his literary prose, there is also a third reason: precarity.\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was one of the first freelancers. A journalist, a translator, an enterprising editor: an autonomous worker who reads and writes.
